There is plenty to do on, in, or under the water in Vieques. The
diving is excellent almost everywhere visibility-wise, unless there
is storm surf, then it depends which side of the island you're on.
Right in Esperanza there is always something to see underwater, and
a good place to start is under the old Sugar Pier. You'll find folks
to take you out snorkeling, rent you gear and/or kayaks. There are
companies to take you on SCUBA or Snorkel tours to
offshore or otherwise inaccessible areas. One of these SCUBA/Snorkel Tour
companies in Vieques is
Nan-Sea Charters.
Also recently added is Vieques Charters Inc. a snorkeling tour
company.
The bioluminescent bay in Vieques
is of our biggest
single attractions. You can kayak on Bio-Bay at night with
Blue Caribe
Kayaks and a few other tour operators. An alternative is
to travel to Bio-bay by electric boat. All these companies have been given permits by D.R.N.
(Departmento Recursos Naturales) to take people on the Bay. See
our Bio-Bay page for info on the bay and best times to see it.
The proprietors of
Black Beard
Sports in Isabel Segunda are certified P.A.D.I. SCUBA
instructors; it's also a one stop shop for snorkeling, SCUBA,
camping and mountain biking gear.
Finally, you can find snorkel gear
and inflatable beach toys for rent at a number of places, both
in Esperanza and in the town of Isabel Segunda.
