Also, for those people who are interested, Sun Bay is the only place on the island that allows camping. The next pictures show the entrance to Sun Bay and the area designated for camping. The office at the end of the road is where you sign up and pay, and there are basic showers and bathrooms. As petty theft is normal, you shouldn't leave anything in your tent you don't want to lose, when you're not there! Nothing. It's now time for breakfast, and, unfortunately, the best breakfast on the island is no more. Coconuts in Isabel II has closed. Everett, I will miss you. We all will. He has decided to take some time to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. But, there are other places for breakfast. Posada Vistamar in Esperanza serves a pretty good breakfast and I'm told the Crabwalk Cafe in Esperanza serves it too, although it was not open while I was there. Once the season starts, the Trade Winds serves it also. In Isabel II, La Viequense Deli serves up breakfast too. Now in the pictures to the right, I'll show you some of the sights on the island, while I tell you about some more of my visits. Many places are closed for the month of October and some for November (see What's Happening! for the latest schedules). I have at least included picture of some of these, so you know what to look for. Cafe Media Luna - Restaurant in Isabel II will be serving up sumptuous fare and music when they re-open. Ricardo escaped from the world of professional photography to return to his father's island home and realize his dream. With the help of Monica, his wife, they have brought dream to successful fruition. With the help of friends from San Juan, and abroad, they have brought the sounds of jazz drifting through the quiet streets in the after hours of the evening. El Sombrero Viejo Bar in Isabel II is open every day serving drinks and light fare, like "perro calientes", and "Kuhn Dogs". He has two pool tables and a great old Spanish building just oozing of character. The owner, Bob Kuhn, was one of the islands' original wholesalers, remembering when he brought his supplies over by sail powered cargo boats. I think his was the original "Kon Tiki! Richards Cafe in Isabel II is undergoing renovations, but should be open by season to offer excellent local food, including Rice and beans, Mariscos (fresh local seafood), local meat dishes, arepas (fry bread), fried plantains (tostones green, and Maduros ripe), and other local favorites. When Taverna Española reopens, it is a must do. The owners serve traditional Spanish food, and a Fricassee de Cabro that is one of the best in Vieques. Super Descuentos Morales ,the grocery chain on the island, has two stores, one in Isabel II and the other in Santa Maria ,both on the north side, for those who have cooking facilities in their digs. They've got pretty much everything you need to stock your fridge. In Esperanza, you'll want to visit La Tienda Verde ( the Green Store) for good prices on most of your needs.
