So many exciting things are happening on our beautiful island! This is the season when we have friends visiting from all over the world, and it is wonderful to greet the new ones and to welcome back "repeat offenders"! With winter bearing down on the United States, it is fun to meet smiling sun-tanned faces on our beaches, and smugly laugh about how glad we are to be here.
Oh my, the "Eclipse Over Vieques" was a sight to be seen! The night was clear and bright, with a light breeze, and all over the island amateur astronomers of all ages had their eyes toward the heavens. When the eclipse was complete, the moon was a sensuous, deep red and inspired sighs of ooh's and aah's. It really was spectacular! Of course, the following night the moon was at its fullest. The sundown display was magnificent, but with the huge, lustrous full moon already beaming in the multi-colored sky, and the Caribbean lapping on the shores, those of us here realized we were some of the most fortunate people on Earth. As Al, from Al's Mar Azul, would toast, "To The Good Life, To The Only Life, To The Viequense Life"!
Lyman, from The Crab Walk, in Esperanza, had a great steel drum band, The Three Amigos, last Saturday night (although there were actually four members)! There was dancing, dancing, dancing until after midnight. He plans to have the band once a month, so when you come to Vieques, please stop by The Crab Walk and see when they will be playing next. And, while you are there, try the
Jalapeńo Poppers-ummmm, so good!
Every Thursday night at Al's Mar Azul, in Isabel Segunda, Captain Martin plays oldies. There is always a crowd dancing, throwing darts, shooting pool, playing
foosball, or (gasp!) doing tequila shots! Be there or be square!
This Saturday night, at Café Media Luna, in Isabel Segunda, Ricardo and Monica are offering another evening of music from their Jazz Master Series. On this night, featured will be Jerry Gonzolez of NY's Fort Apache Band-on trumpet, Eric Figuero-on piano, Freddie Gumbs-on upright bass, and Anthony Carrillo-on bongos. During the season, Café Media Luna provides us with fabulous, live jazz, sumptuous dining, and lovely ambience. Don't miss it! Call for reservations (787-741-2594).
