2007

Hi everyone,

Well, all righty then. Pia is in New York, having fun, I'm sure. I am in Vieques for a couple of weeks schmoozing and taking full advantage of the doldrums!

I've been out to eat a few times and was impressed with Blue Macaw as usual. The pan seared Ahi Tuna was great as was the beef tenderloin. Thanks Rick and Honor, and Cheo and Kelly and the rest of the staff. I also recommend the Eggs Benedict at Trade Winds. Hoping to

Lots is happening, although most of it is business vacation closings for the fall. There was a Coors Light beach cleanup concert this Labor Day weekend. Many from the main island joined the local people in cleaning up Esperanza beach and Sun Bay of the flotsam and jetsam brought in by passing hurricanes and cruise ships. The parties must have been good, because as I walked down main street in Isabel Segunda this morning (labor day), it was deserted!

Things have really slowed down here. The kids are back in school, and obviously the same in the states, which is why it's so quiet here. If anyones' wondering, the storms so far have only brought some nice surf to Red Beach and Navio. If you want a beach to yourself, now is the time to visit. We get a little rain almost daily. It is the beginning of the rainy season, but mostly just no wind, until a hurricane hits and then you wish the doldrums returned.

A Note, Thomas from bbh has finished the season and is on to new adventures. Thomas, thank you for all you have done there and in the other places you have helped since you moved to the island. You have been a remarkable asset to the island.

OK, the restaurant closings.
Bananas 2 weeks in October, but nothing definite
Bili: Closed through September
bbh is closed until October 23 for guests, and Nov. 2 for a full opening.
Blue Macaw: Sept. 4 until Nov. 6
Cafe Mamasonga reopens November
El Jardin Closed Oct. 16 New Island Steak House reopens in November
El Quenepo Closed Oct 1 - November 4
Roy's closed Sundays
Trade Winds closed Sept 7 - October 4
Restaurante Uva Closed Oct 5 - Nove 5
Martineau Bay Closed until further notice

I wish there was more to say, but there is nothing going on, except the beginning of another round of politics, so get ready for "The Battle of the Sound Trucks". He or she who makes the most noise wins!

Thanks for reading!
